Why Flash Fiction? #ABT (Amoresels Blog Tour)

Hello Awesome Visitors!

I know you are used to us talking on Thursdays and Sundays, but for this special event, I suppose we can break from tradition.

Today I want to dish on my new project “Amoresels”, specifically the question most are curious about:

Why flash fiction?

One of the main reasons is because I like a challenge.

You see, the majority of my works have been very ambitious in vision, which has led to a larger than anticipated word count. I underestimate not only how much my characters have to say but how many keystrokes it takes to get to each of my, what I call, pressure points. Usually, it’s anywhere from 25 to 50 percent longer than predicted.

Even when I have allocated more words, I tend to exceed my estimate. I guess my abhorrence for restraint extends beyond me … lol.

Wait a minute! Guess I have to get back to the point, don’t I?

Well, I wanted a break from being the Lass of Lengthy Literary Speak. (Yeah, I made that up). What better way to do it is to take on flash fiction? In most writing circles, flash fiction is defined as work 1500 words or less.

This word count construct forced me to rein in the descriptive layers and just get to the point while delivering an enjoyable story. I settled on the lowest story count being in the ballpark of just under 500 words.

The second reason is that I wanted to do something a bit different than the future projects I’m working on. Those take quite a bit of planning and research. "Amoresels" involved brain power and research, but more in the sense of taking things I discovered and making stories out of them. Also, not just stepping out of my writing zone but also not limiting myself to one core vision of what is sensual.

Erotica has a multitude of layers. What is ordinary to some may be kinky to others.

Until next time,
