Let's Talk Thursday: Episode 14

Hello Awesome Visitors!  Let's talk for a minute.

In the last Episode, I mentioned three short stories of mine that would be featured in the short story collection, Continuous Drips.  Today I'd like to talk some more about one of them.

Let's explore... Derailed Endurance (staccato version)

Why "staccato version"?
This is labeled the "staccato version" because this particular rendition was submitted for inclusion in this collection.  I will come out with a more "robust" version (if you will) when it is released independently, so the visual for the independent one will not be the same as this one.  However, that won't be out until sometime next year.

What's the scenario?
This is always the tricky part... to talk about a story without giving away too much.  However, I will do my best:

At the beginning, it seems the reader is thrust into the middle of the action.  The main character Korey is pulling into a parking lot.  The description of the type of cars mirror that it's an area that Korey would rarely frequent, much less fit in.  Yet for some reason, he is willing to travel past his initial discomfort to make this journey.

Through the technique of flashbacks within a six month time span, many things are revealed about Korey.  One, there is turbulence in his home life that affects his performance in school.  Two, his favorite place to go is not the arcade but to a community center.  Three, his favorite thing to do is swim:

Excerpt from Derailed Endurance (staccato version):

The community center served as his second home.  He stopped there on days when he couldn't have full access to the school's swimming pool.  When Korey was in the water, all of his problems just melted away.  He became one with the waves.  The lullaby of the splashing water was music to the ears!

Normally he would just be there for an hour, an hour and a half tops.  Yet Korey was still full of energy at slightly over the two hour mark.  Just as he prepared himself to do some more laps, the door to the far side opened and another person entered.

The female possessed some of the bluest eyes Korey had ever witnessed.  Pacific Ocean blue, they were just that clear and vibrant.  Her reddish blond hair was layered in a bob and stopped just underneath her strong chin.  Korey smiled as he drank in the definition of her arms and legs.  It was apparent that she worked out a lot.

He studied her form as she dived into the water.  The execution and pacing of the breast stroke movements were top notch.  Korey had to confess feeling slightly jealous and was overcome with the urge to compete against her...

Derailed Endurance outlines the influence of Korey's meeting with this young lady named Cadence.  Although the estimated age of the characters is around eighteen, I wouldn't quite deem this story suitable for those younger than eighteen (or high school) due to a detailed steamy sequence used to outline the intensity of their bond with each other.

Stay tuned this coming Wednesday, October 29th for the official cover reveal of Continuous Drips, as well as information regarding pre-ordering this collection.

Until next time,

Desire
